What you’ll need to install new gutters:
String, a pencil, a level, a tape measure, a piece of gutter that is the same length as (or longer than) the side of the home you are wanting to attach it to, gutter caps, gutter sealant, a hammer, a crimping tool, snips, downspout adapter, and enough Gutter Hangers to place one roughly every 2 feet of gutter.
Steps:
1. Begin by creating a reference line on the section of the roof where the gutter needs hung. This can be done by attaching a piece of string to one end and running it along the facia and attaching it to where the gutter will need to stop. Use a level to make sure the string runs at a slight downward slope towards where the water will drain in to the downspout
2. Measure the line you have drawn to know what length of gutter you need to buy. If there is not a gutter already cut to that length you can use a longer piece of gutter and cut of the excess length with a hacksaw.
3. Once the gutter is the appropriate length, it is time to attach the gutter caps. Use gutter sealant in the grooves of the cap, placing it on the end of the gutter and securing it by hammering it in place. The ensure the seal is strong, go around the edges with a crimping tool to seal the pieces together.
4. Create a place for the water to drain by taking your outlet piece, placing it on the gutter, and outlining it with a pencil on to the gutter. You can use snips now to cut out the circle you drew.
5. Place gutter sealant around the downspout adapter and use that to attach it to the inside of the gutter around the hole you just made.
6. Now set the gutter hangers in to place by pressing each one on to the front and back on the gutter. This part may take a little bit of force. Once they are in place you can screw them in following the reference line you drew earlier.
And your gutters should be hung! Remember there should be a slight slope in your gutters towards where it will drain through the downspout adapter. Now your home’s exterior will stay beautiful longer despite stormy weather.
